A city of two seas, three religions, four Empires, thousand minarets and millions of cats – that’s all about Istanbul. A venue of contrasts and amazing impressions, historically known as Byzantium, Constantinople and Tsargrad, Istanbul is the most populous city in Turkey and the country's economic, cultural, and historic center, though it’s not even a country’s capital at the moment. Istanbul is a transcontinental city, straddling the Bosporus strait (which separates Europe and Asia) between the Sea of Marmara and the Black Sea. With its 15 mln residents Istanbul is the largest European city and is considered to be the true bridge between the East and West.
The city's biggest attraction is its historic center, partially listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its cultural and entertainment hub can be found across the city's natural harbor, the Golden Horn, in the Beyoğlu district. Mysterious Hagia Sophia, charming oriental bazaars with spices’ aromas, cozy shisha lounges, delicious dessert of Turkish Delight attract tourists from all the world. At the same time Istanbul has one of the fastest-growing metropolitan economies in the world. It hosts the headquarters of many Turkish companies & mass media and accounts for more than a quarter of the country's gross domestic product. Istanbul has bid for the Summer Olympics five times in twenty years.
In October 2018 AVK GmbH Head of Sales went to Istanbul in order to hold the meetings with the commercial department of the Embassy of the Republic of Austria and the heads of the local construction companies. Turks are deservedly considered to be the leaders in the world construction industry, with the most ambitious projects mostly being located outside the country: e.g. the tallest building in Europe of Lakhta skyscraper in St. Petersburg (new Gazprom headquarters) or the largest Olympic town in the Central Asia in Ashgabat (area of 1.466.400 m2, total cost – 5 billion USD) etc. Nevertheless internal market has been growing fast as well: several days ago Turkish president Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdogan officially opened the 1st terminal of the new largest world airport in Istanbul. At its full completion in approximately ten years, it will occupy nearly 19,000 acres and serve up to 200 million travelers a year with six runways.
That was our 1st official visit to Turkey and we admit to be sincerely captivated by the warm reception we got there. AVK GmbH with our incredible experience and impressive reference list undoubtedly could synergize the efforts with the locals & forge collective strategies for the common good. Turkish companies operate with construction projects in different spheres: residential complexes, roads and infrastructure, sports objects etc. AVK GmbH is obviously willing to assist in their aspirations. We shook the hands with our Turkish partners, planned next steps and already started co-work on a number of projects.
